Lets face it, at one time or another all of the so called "Big Four" have fell off...... with the exception of Slayer who have remained the model of consistency and a band that fans of vicious, brutal heavy metal could rely, then in 2013 Jeff Hanneman died from liver cirrhosis caused by a spider bite and also in the same year Dave Lombardo quit/was sacked and this left the future of the once mighty Slayer very much in the balance, fans mourning the death of Jeff who was the creator of many of the bands biggest anthems couldn't cope with the loss of Lombardo also in what seemed to be a spat with Kerry King about money and many decided Slayer were finished (myself included), so when their 12th album Repentless landed I had reservations, the first couple of listens offered nothing more to my ears than slightly improved variations of the last 2 releases - Christ Illusion and World Painted Blood (which I like but are far from classic Slayer) but then on repeated listens it became clear that Repentless is actually Slayers most unapologetically thrash Album since Divine and the best possible outcome that King and Araya could have delivered, sure they have drawn from the same well as they always have, but not many bands can make songs like Slayer, what I like most about Repentless is the tighter feel from it, everything is kept simple, even the solos have decreased input and are kept very conservative by Slayer standards, its a fitting tribute with the passing of Jeff that the solos are kept marginalised. It includes all ten of Slayer's studio albums since 1986 and their 1991 live album Decade of Aggression.The idea of releasing a second box set was made public in August 2010.
